Rocktober!

Howdy-ho, everybody (or nobody)(whatever).  There's a few new comics up.  What is it with these girls and mad scientists?  In "No. 58: Pillow Thoughts", Amanda had a Dr. Steel poster.  More recently, in "No. 102: The Scratch", we see Lacey has a Dr. Evil poster.  It must be a bad-boy thing.

I've lost at least 20 lbs., probably more.  Pretty good, huh?  Believe it or not, it started with an ear infection.  I'll explain: a couple of months ago, I had a persistent ear infection that I had seen one doctor about several times.  After a few weeks, it still hadn't cleared up completely.  She suggested diabetes might be the cause, as it weakens the immune system.

Deep breath.

In short, I don't have it.  I saw another doctor, he tested me for it, and the test came back negative.  But that was it for me.  I'm overweight, I know it, and I've known it for a long time.  The idea that I might have diabetes has haunted me.  Having a doctor say it... that changes things.  None of the foods that I like - macaroni and cheese, pizza, fried chicken - are worth their delicious taste if they're going to lead me to disease.  Food is supposed to help you, not hurt you.  So I took the new doctor's advice and went on a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet.

People have told me I'm thinner.  I've noticed some bulges are gone in a few places, and I have a little more energy.  What I'm doing is not really a denial diet.  I tell myself "I can't have fried chicken" in the sense that it's a rule rather than a personal decision (like "I can't play in traffic" instead of "I'd rather not play in traffic").  There are little ways to still eat stuff I like, like pizza (I make it myself using low-fat ingredients, and I only make it on days when I haven't eaten much else).  Otherwise, I've been eating more rice, vegetables, fruit, turkey (a lot more turkey, gobble gobble), fish, and chicken, and a lot less red meat and cheese.  I've switched from regular moo-cow milk to soy milk.  I'm off soda (unintentionally, I might add) and on water, diet iced tea (sweetened with citrus), and V8 fruit juices.

And you know what?  It's actually pretty good .  The cattle industry's got you brainwashed into believing you need its products, people.  BRAINWASH-

*beeeeeeeee...*

*sounds of struggle*

*Coughcough* Sorry about that.  I had to deal with those industry assassins.  In addition, my job's changed.  I'm off the help desk and doing more documentation stuff for this project I'm on.  It's not like it's top secret, but I'd rather not say much else.  Keep work and personal stuff separate, you know?

Later all oh you are not reaching for that gun-

Saying Hello

Holy moly, have I actually been posting one comic per weekend recently (except for Memorial Day Weekend, when I was down south with my folks)?  Yowza.  That's a lot (for me).  Let's make this a habit.

I still like "Fallout 3."  What is up with that?

Hmmm... not too much else otherwise.  I saw the new "Star Trek," and thought it was good.  I'm still working the same job, living in the same apartment.

I don't have much else to say, besides that.

Daaaahhh

I'm stuck in the throes of a creative slump.  It doesn't help that I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas, or that it's AWESOME, or that I got "Fallout 3" with it, or that it, too, is FREAKIN' AWESOME.  Mind you, that's only one reason.  It's part slacking, part genuine dry-spell.  Nothing I come up with really catches my attention that long.  I'm always coming up with a new idea and thinking, "oh, hahaha, that's really cool," but then I mull over it, turn it over in my head, then I'm thinking, "ah, jeez, that'll never work."  Of course, being an artist means exposing yourself, so maybe I shouldn't be overanalyzing my brain farts.  Criticism isn't my enemy, censorship is.

Since I last typed in this box, I've spent two months away from home.  I'm not kidding.  For about two months, I was working on the opposite end of the city as part of this on-site support thing for work.  Living out of my apartment would have run me ragged, so my parents offered me the use of their condo.  They're only in it when they're in the area, so they only needed to use it for 1-2 days during that time, and that was on the weekend.  So, that was my life pretty much for most of September, all of October, and the first week of November 2008.  Pretty nuts, but I'm glad to be back.  If my boss asked me to do it again, however... I wouldn't necessarily say "no"...

I got physical therapy for my ankle.  It's feeling much better, but now I gotta lose about 20 lbs. so I'm not crushing it under the weight of Me.  My brother Paul moved into the area, and I've been happy to see more of him.  He lived in New Jersey for a few years and liked it at first, but the magic faded after a while (granted, the power of New Jersey to sway one's heart is debatable).

Did I mention "Fallout 3"?  Yes, I did.  FREAKIN' AWESOME.

New Dualie coming soon (hopefully).  Until later!

Happy Memorial Day!

Posting about how little I post nowadays has become old.  I'll just post.

What's new?  First off, the good: the new Indiana Jones movie has come out.  I haven't seen it yet, but I am looking forward to it this weekend.  My brother Paul celebrates his 31st birthday tomorrow.  I'm doing well at work, even if I'm not getting as much as I'd like done (heck, at least I have an income and health insurance ).

Now, the bad: my grandfather, Armand Henry DuChateau, died in February.  He was 90 and had many, many health problems, so it was unfortunate yet expected.  He was an incredibly creative individual, and I attribute much of my talent to him.  My grandmother Ruth has been very sad, but we think she is going to be alright.

I injured my ankle somehow in late April.  I have no idea how, it just started hurting one Sunday night for no reason.  I'm going to get an MRI to see what's going on in there.

Uhhh... I can't think of anything else to say.  I can't think of anything I want to say.

...'Til next time.

(Didn't I say Happy Memorial Day?)

Hey, I updated!

...Just not that often.  My new year's resolution was to snap myself out of my funk.  It's a general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament (why yes, I do have a "Dr. Evil" poster on my bedroom wall, how could you tell?).  This funk started around... high school.

Hm.  No problem.

Anyway, I have practically nothing to write about since August (har, har, like that ever stopped me).  It got colder, for one.  Since I walk to work, I pay a lot of attention to the Weather Channel.  I don't pay nearly enough attention to the news, though.  I've got several coworkers who want to get in a discussion with me about which candidate's best.  I'm all like, "I dunno, the one that's Not Republican, I guess," and they're all, like, "that's totally not an issue here, we all hate Republicans," and I'm like, "OMG taht is soooooo kewl," and they're like, "yah, totly," and I'm like, "NO WAI," and they're like, "YA RLY," and I'm like, "ROFLOL," and they're like, "Internet meme jokes aren't funny."

And I say they are.  For about 10 seconds.

Moving on.

I heard "Cloverfield" gives people vertigo.  The science behind it is that your inner ear contains the mechanisms for keeping your balance, but you also take visual cues from your environment as well.  If you're sitting still in a dark theater and everything you see is jerking around as if the people on the screen were freakin' juggling the damn phones (hey!  Wanna great survival tip?  PUT DOWN THE EFFING PHONE AND RUN!!!), then your noodle gets mixed messages from two originally reliable sensory organs.  So, I haven't seen it yet, and I'll probably wait until it comes out on DVD.

I did see "National Treasure 2," "The Golden Compass," and "Sweeney Todd."  The first two were good - not Oscar-good, but good entertainment.  "Sweeney" was a marvelous musical massacre.  If you go see it, bring a scarf.  Eugh.

Aaaanyway, I'm a little more at ease at work.  It's still tough, and I still think I tick some people off, but I'm probably safe for now.  I've got a sweet flex time schedule going on where I get every other Friday off.  That's a three-day weekend every other week.  I'm on one now.  In the wise words of Peter Griffin, it's freakin' sweet .  Nyeheheheheheheheheh...

I think I'll end this for now.  Later, tater gator.

What?
